DAILY BREAD

These next few days of Holy Week hold a lot of hope intermingled with sorrow.
Today is what we refer to in the church world as Maundy Thursday, a day when we remember the final meal Jesus shared with His disciples.
At this table, He broke bread and told them that it represented His body that would be broken for them.
His body being the bread of life.
The sustaining and restoring bread that fulfills more than a daily need and reaches to the depths of our souls.
During His ministry, Jesus taught that people didn’t need to waste their worry on being concerned about their daily bread because He was offering a more eternal form of sustenance. He was offering Himself as the bread of life.
Jesus wasn’t saying that having food to eat doesn’t matter, but He was saying that is not where our focus should be.
Checking our bank account, counting the eggs, and calculating how far the gas tank will get you this week are not inherently bad habits, but they can easily become distractions.
Our eyes should be fixed on Him, not fixated on the daily things that are here today and gone tomorrow.
He wants you to be fed today. But even more than that, He desires that you are filled with His restorative Spirit because the will satisfy a hunger that goes way beyond your next meal.
God always was, always is, and always will be. He extends that to us as He formed us in His own image, guides us with His Spirit, and offers an eternal promise with Him.
That promise was made in the broken body of Jesus and fulfilled in the empty tomb.
As we move into these final days of the holiest of weeks, pause and truly receive what is being offered as Jesus is broken for you.
Be satisfied. Be filled. Be loved 🤍
